Vice President

Ralph de Faria, Director of Administration, Cooper Robertson & Partners

Ralph joined Cooper Robertson & Partners in 1988 and is responsible for facilities management, human resources, benefit administration, and office management.  Ralph’s roles and responsibilities have grown over the years along with the growth of his firm.  In 2001, Ralph was elevated to Principle, joining the senior management group with the firm.  He handles all of his roles with grace, kindness, intelligence, patience and a sense of humor.  He attended City University of New York City College where he studied Chemistry and English Literature.

Ralph joined SDA in 2003.  He has participated in many programs and lunchtime roundtable discussions, and wants to be more involved with the chapter.

During this last economic downturn, Ralph hosted the Office Manager and Human Resource Roundtable Series.  His goals were to meet with representatives from various A&E offices on a quarterly basis to share ideas and concerns about ways to cut costs and basically “weather the storm.”  His leadership and concern for industry’s main asset—its people—was heart-warming and inspiring.  We all learned from this and found creative ways to save.

Ralph believes SDA can serve the industry now more than ever—especially when firms are beginning to pick up and hire new people who could benefit greatly from SDA for networking support, programs and discussions.  In February of this year, SDA NY Chapter established a new Mentorship committee in order to connect with new members to help them understand and take advantage of the benefits of their membership.  Ralph chairs this new Mentorship committee.  A quote from his article “Administration” SkyLines Spring 2011:

…it is organizations like the SDA who provide support and guidance that is especially needed when working environments are the most challenging.  The benefit of mentors and knowing that others have overcome obstacles and have succeeded is invaluable!

He says, “I learned that the success of an organization, such as the Society for Design Administration, is based upon providing ongoing quality services to existing members and by attracting vibrant new members with fresh ideas and vitality!  It is my intention to do all I can to assist our chapter with fulfilling those goals.”
